Emergencies and conflict
Every year about 300 million people are affected by conflict or natural disaster. ActionAid International's Emergencies and Conflict teams work with communities on a long-term basis to mitigate impact and aid recovery.
The approach
- Support poor and excluded people to access appropriate relief, and longer term recovery
- Advocate for women's and girls' rights during conflicts and disasters and support peace-building activities through women's groups and community based organisations
- Work with governments and intergovernmental organisations to reduce risks and protect people, especially the most vulnerable
- Support poor and excluded people in demanding international treaties which address human rights during conflicts and emergencies
- Produce knowledge and compile evidence of the experiences of women and poor people during conflict, climate change and environmental damage.
