Haiti Update
Six months on from the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on 12th January 2010, Haiti is showing signs of recovery. However, with an estimated 1.5m people still living in sprawling 'tent cities' across the 1,300 spontaneous sites, living conditions remain a key concern.
Key achievements to date
"It's the first time I am working since the earthquake. I will use the money to start a small business so I will be able to support my family. I want to be able to send my daughter and little sister to school." 24 year old Guirlene Nicolas, a participant in an ActionAid cash for work programme in Philippeau.
- ActionAid Haiti and partners have reached out to over 22,000 families since the earthquake struck, this represents over 133,000 individuals
- We have reached over 4,000 families with psychosocial activities
- We have provided cash for work activities for 2,918 families.
Our 3 year response and rehabilitation programme
Focusses on immediate needs: food, non food items, temporary shelter, livelihoods, education, disaster risk reduction, psychosocial care and protection, policy and goverance.
